There is a period in every peoples life, when we look back. Look back to see our life- where it started, how it started and where it took us at the end of the day. Within all the complexity of life, we lthink, make a sigh and wish, if , only if, we can go back again to the root. Simple old plain root compare to this lavish corporate life. Was simple yet so beautiful.
Krishnokoli's music is exactly the same. In one word it is simple. but that's the catch! Her exquisiteness is hidden in that simplicity. With all the thrash, heavy, mellow, Jazz, mind always have the place for a particular type of music- Krishnokoli's music.
Her Debut album, Shurje Badhi basha, is an amazing feet in the bangla music arena. Everytime I listen to this album, I get frustrated. Frustrated about the commercial music scenario of Bangladesh where franchise like Mila, Nowrin, Armeen Musa get enough exposure, hundreds of post regarding them, their music, wheares Krishnokoli doesn't get what she deserve. Don't you think, this is the best album of the year irrespective of genre? Thanks PP, for taking her interview in the podcast- as I learned about her -the musician i admire most now a days.
Her voice- simply superb. Voice is one thing, tune is another. You can sing. everybody can. But to become a true artist the most essential thing- the pure knowledge of tune, scale, how many of current singers have that? I haven't seen that for a long time. Krishnokoli blends amazingly both of them with her style, that, there is only one word, Mesmarizing. I wouldn't compare her style with Lopa mudra or Moushumi Bhoumik. Every singer has his/her unique style. May be you can compare the genre of her song which is more comparable, but comparing the style, kind of insulting for artist like Krishno Koli.
Her Lyrics- I wouldn't dare to compare it with others. Recently, we saw excellent lyricist in Bangla music- like Shahana bajpayee, Meghdol (I don't know who writes those). But Krishnokoli's lyrics is comparable only with her. All the songs are amazingly well thought, and well placed. The more I listen to this album, the more I know about her, the more I feel about the concept about the album- A true tribute of a daughter to her mother. From Hatte Hatte, satkahon, Icchemoton, bondho amar to bhalo besho ekbar all are from the deep love for her mother. From Bodhua calls for the freedom of inner feeling which her mother tried to show her all her life, to all the deep feelings of a lone walk after losing her at a young age in Hatte Hatte to Bhalobesho ekbar- the last wish to remember only her name who gave everything (yes, everything)- the expression only Krishnokoli can write. Otherwise how can you write, hotath ekta rodh hoye jao, where suddenly her mother took shelter in the sun?
Her Music- as I told you in the first place is simple. Thats the thing. Simple. You don't have to have a 7/8 time signature in your song to render your mind- that's what she showed. Ornob, again, showed why is the ONE. When you listen to this album, you can only say, this particular song can only goes with this particular music. That's make the song so unique. Unique of Krishnokoli and Ornob.
I often have "Tumul Jhogra" with my friends- what is pure music. I had difficulty in the past to gave example in Bangla music. With Shurje Badhi basha, Krishnokoli gave me now a perfect example, what pure music is- her music. |
