Bangla band Lakkhichhara is upbeat after featuring in a compilation album with Bangladeshi bands. They get talking about this project

They know what it takes to hit the right note and how! The ‘jibon chaichhe aro beshi, aro beshi kichhu’ spirit has taken Lakkhichhara beyond the border. A compilation album with Bangladeshi bands later, Lakkhichhara is on a ‘musical’ high.
While the singing sound of champagne grows louder, the band members confess how they weren’t very upbeat about the venture at the beginning. “When Sazzad, exguitarist of Warfaze had approached us during the pujas, we took it light. Onek to pirated CD beroye, we had thought. They had asked for a few songs from us and after giving out the same we thought that the matter would end there itself. It’s only when Md Maham Ahmed, keyboardist of Miles paid us a visit a few days back that we came to know how our two songs, that are featured in the album are a current rage in Bangladesh,” says Debaditya, keyboardist of Lakkhichhara. Nudge him a little more on the word ‘rage’ and pat comes the reply, “With hoardings of the album up in every part of Dhaka and the two songs, Ke ki bole gelo and Paliye berai topping the charts in 10 popular radio stations in Bangladesh, what else will you call this apart from rage?”
No mean feat, surely. But Subhojit, vocalist of the band, gives full credit to Sazzad, the producer of the album, who’s also the brain behind the promotion. “I’m being told that paliye berai is the biggest hit of the month and being an Indian band, we can’t ask for more,” he owns up. The band members are also more upbeat than ever, since the album is about to bag them bigger deals in terms of shows. “Our songs have been hugely appreciated and talks are on about us performing at the Dhaka Rock Fest, which is really prestigious. At this point of time, we are just keeping our fingers crossed,” quips Debaditya.
The album, Dabanol, also stands for quite a few firsts. For the first time, an Indian band gets featured in a Bangladeshi album and also for the first time the big daddies of Bangladeshi rock, LRB share album space with five other underground bands, De-illumination, Beyond Scenes, Evilution, Silent Prayer and D.O.T. The band, De-illumination also appears with the genre, symphonic metal, for the first time. Talking about Dabanol, Sazzad says, “Dabanol is symbolic of two things — burning the growing piracy in Bangladesh and spreading rock music like wild fire.” Ask the ex-guitarist-turnedproducer what made him zero in on Lakkhichhara, and Sazzad is quick to quip, “We’ve heard a lot of bands from Kolkata, but Lakkhichhara’s sound is similar to other Bangladeshi rock bands. I thought, their songs would go well with the character of the album. Fossils is a known band in Bangladesh and we thought it’s time that we introduced Lakkhichhara in our market.”
Now, this definitely calls for celebration.
