Shinoda Goes Solo

November 28, 2005

By Tim Jaramillo

LINKIN PARK frontman MIKE SHINODA breaks into the world of hip-hop with his FORT MINOR side project, and the new album The Rising Tied.

Master hip-hopper JAY-Z stepped in to executive produce the album, and Shinoda wrote every song and created most of the music.

The Rising Tied kicks off with the thick beat and rolling rhymes of "Remember The Name." BLACK THOUGHT of THE ROOTS lays down some serious rhymes on the introspective "Right Now."

COMMON raps alongside Shinoda over a stuttering drum beat on "Back Home." On "Cigarettes," Shinoda compares gangsta hip-hop to cigarettes, "Cigarettes claim they're safe/ Rappers claim they really bang/ We don't care if it's true... / We don't believe the words/ We just love the way they sound."

Other hot tracks include the melodic "Believe Me" with its Latin breakdown, and the jangly "High Road" which features R&B powerhouse JOHN LEGEND's sweet voice on the hook.
