In the early 90s, Bangladeshi music listeners were still new to metal. Any lyrics other than those inspired by romanticism or patriotism were rare. Suddenly there came out a different sound, such as high pitched vocals, fast guitars with distortion, blood pumping drum bits, and thought full lyrics with new type of tunes. That was nothing but the sound of the band Warfaze, and soon the mass people knew the Bengali sound of hard rock and heavy metal.

Warfaze was formed on 5th June 1984. They started the journey to do some real good hard rock and heavy metal music in Bangladesh. Warfaze is a hard rock band with elements of heavy metal and progressive metal/progressive rock in some of their songs. They were one of the first such bands of this genre in the country.

Kamal, Mir, Hell, Naimul and Bappy started a line up and after a very short time Tipu joined the band as drummer, Babna as the bassist, and Rashed as the vocalist. This second line up had to be discontinued when Naimul immigrated to the USA. Ironically, immigration is one of the main reasons of why the band had changed their line up numerous times since their inception.

First concert: On 26 April 1991 for the first time they performed their own songs at a concert arranged by BAMBA in University of Dhaka.

Awards: They recieced the Coca-Cola BAMBA Music Award for the title song of Obak Bhalobasha in 1994.

Current Lineup:

Balam - Vocals & Guitars
Sazzad - Guitars & Back-up Vocals
Shams - Keyboards & Back-up Vocals
Rojer - Bass
Tipu - Drums & Percussion

Former Members:

Sunjoy - Vocals
Babna - Bass & Vocals
Russell - Keyboards & Guitars
Fuad - Guitars
Kamal - Guitars
Sumon - Bass & Vocals
Jewel - Guitars & Vocals
Mizan - Vocals
Cezanne - Bass
Biju - Bass

This line up occurred to be performing largest number of shows in Warfaze's history and has been still running very smooth on Warfaze's avenge for rock music.

Tipu deserves a big credit to hold Warfaze still loud and proud.

Discography

  • Warfaze (1991)

  • Obak Bhalobasha (1995)

  • Jibondhara (1997)

  • Oshamajik (1998)

  • Alo (2000)

  • Moharaj (2003)

Warfaze has produced a number of talented musicians. It has been the pioneer of heavy metal music in Bangladesh and has set the benchmark for quality hard rock for the new generation. The emergence of Warfaze defined a new horizon in Bangla music.

they are the only heavy metal band i have respect for from the 80s! i have a collection of all their CASSETTES and CDs of each of their albums as well as Mizan's!! Mizan was what first caught my eats, and which i searched into their history of songs, I WAS BLOWN-AWAY, with the spectacular vocals from Sunkoy and Babna.. and now in the recent day would be Balam. Balam is trully keeping this band still together, if it was for his hit Single "Somoy" in the ablum Alo, i think i would have given up on him long long time age....... but this guy also rocks.

I SALUTE wave
