Dear Sirs,
On 11 January 2007, Daily Start’s teen-magazine Rising Star published a review on PoLaPaIn.com in “RS Awards” article, which includes offensive remarks, misinterpretations of the purpose of our site and displays sheer hatred without any legitimate argument. We realize that the article was very sarcastic and was supposedly humorous. However, we, the members of PoLaPaIn.com, along with the administration, are substantially offended by the limitless accusations. Hence, we are objecting to the following:
1. The argument for calling PoLaPaIn.com “The Most Dangerous Website of the Year” - “PoLaPaIn.com allows users to download every major album, which is released,” is just completely invalid. PoLaPaIn.com has stopped providing new releases a long time ago. Latest albums are found only in “Listen Section” of the site, which allows users to get the taste of the recent releases. We do not allow members to even request for those albums. PoLaPaIn.com has near ten thousand Bengali songs in its collection and the genre goes from oldies, classic Bangla songs to present day’s most-wanted (excluding most recent releases). Because of its rich collection of music and active and entertaining forum, PoLaPaIn.com has over twenty thousand registered members from all around the world. If the popularity of PoLaPaIn.com due to the availability of recent album releases, it is hard to explain thousand plus members visiting the forum every day even when no new releases are in sight.
2. The most ignorant and odious statement that the article offers is: “This very website could single handedly destroy the entire music industry of Bangladesh!” If this was meant to be a joke, it surely is not funny in any sense of the word. Though it is an awesome power for a community to have, we realize that it is not realistic. On the other hand, let me enlighten whomever it concerns as how we are trying to help Bangladeshi Music by promoting them through all new different media. PoLaPaIn.com has introduced a podcast back in October 2006 and a satirical cartoon strip in January 2007. The goal of these two departments is to let people know more about what Bangladesh has to offer to the music world. Several famous musicians of Bangladesh have greatly honored us by giving us their valuable time and taking the initiative to appear at our podcasts. We assure you, it is the Bangla music that we thrive on and have absolutely no intention of seeing it destroyed. Name another non-profitable site that offers this kind of creativity and dedication to promote Bangla music. Yet, the blame goes only to PoLaPaIn.com!
3. Another outrageously ridiculous comment that the article makes is: “Very soon we would have the entire fleet of Bengali musicians begging in the streets because no one would buy their album and just download them instead.” We sure hope that this requires no explanation. We are going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you realize all the proceeds from the album sales go to the record labels. Also let us assure you that we are not trying to rob the record labels off their money. They are already getting shafted by all the illegal copies and the MP3 CD collections that are being released all around the country. That said; let us explain who our target audience is. While the record label markets and focuses on a release in the country we promote and inform all the Bangladeshis abroad of the latest from the music industry. Since most people aboard have no access to recent albums releases we allow our active members to listen to these albums on demand. If anyone ever visited our forums, they would notice how much the people abroad appreciate that. On top of that, PoLaPaIn.com has been promoting underground bands from its birth, allowing the band members to reach a wider audience to get feedback and suggestions. It is because of sites like PoLaPaIn.com, underground bands gain recognition and popularity. For our members who are in Bangladesh, we provide updated information on latest events and concerts around the country. Doesn’t one attend concerts to support their favorite bands?
4. Let’s not forget about the closing statement, “We would lose our entire cultural heritage because of this stupid site.” Those are some strong words coming from an author who is hiding under the name of an old American Pop Icon. Not to mention that the switch from Bangla music to Bangla culture is a quite a huge leap. We fail to understand how this perversity is supposed to be humorous. We have already been diminished by claiming to be underground and then by being called all stupid. May we point out that we have more registered members than the author’s so-called “mainstream” site? (We suggest he check the meanings of those words in the dictionary. He must have them confused.)
5. Then there is the call-to-action. “Ban it!” Surely there is freedom of choice. A person may find a different newspaper more informational than Daily Star and vice versa. Equally he/she may chose to hang out at other sites instead of PoLaPaIn.com. It is one’s own choice. You cannot really ban an option that is available. People are more than welcome to find a community that suits them best. It is not like we are forcing them to join ours. We adore our little community of twenty thousand members and definitely don’t want a hater in the midst. Of course, that does not mean that we are not open to suggestions. After all that is how PoLaPaIn Podcast and Paintoon started.
Finally, an article filled with accusations like such should have been considered carefully before publishing. We do not find any humor in fabricated facts and ignorant accusations. Trust us, we understand sarcasm, but there is a very vivid difference between sarcasm and accusation. We, the members of PoLaPaIn.com, would like proper actions to be taken by Daily Star including a published apology informing the misled readers of Rising Star. If we spoon feed lies to the new generation, what can we expect from our future generations?
Let us assure you, this is not a trivial matter that would simply be forgotten if ignored. We do not want your misinformed readers to be requesting recently released albums just to get banned from our community. Not to mention that they will be disappointed when they try to join in hopes of downloading recently released albums.

This is NOT PoLaPaIn.com's official response. This is a personal comment.
To me this is purely a work of jealousy. And this is too darn obvious in the article. As they admitted it on the very first line, "The Greatest Bengali website"... truely, PoLaPaIn.com IS THE NUMBER ONE Bengali music site on net and is now going Mainstream, it has become a target of some "mainstream" sites. They have found their competition.
Wow... over 20 thousand members and a thousand hits every single day to a "stupid site"? Yes, it’s this “stupid site” PoLaPaIn.com that starts everything, including Podcast and the newest addition of satiric cartoon. So the listeners (in ALL OVER THE GLOBE) get more out of OUR music and musicians. Name us just one site that offers this kind of creativity and dedication to promote Bengali music industry rather than throwing English-literature-paper type of articles to your face. And oh, forget about album updates, forget about album reviews, forget about regular discussions on Bangla music and other contributions! Hmm, I wonder why some other "mainstream" boring ass site has to go through huge make-over now!!!!!! What a co-incidence!
What can I say... our mainstream politicians have taught us, Bangladeshis, dirty politics and jealousy. And what an example of taking it to a newer level!! Thank you Rising Stars... you truely are raising future star politicians!!! |

I agree with u. What Rising star has done actually made this site more popular (BUT SURELY NOT ALL THE CREDITS GOES TO THIS Daily Star). They say to ban Polapain.com. But every ban thing has an extra charm.

i used to take pride i in rising stars as the leading teen magazine when i was back in bd....but after this....i have serious doubts....how can this guy post such monkey crap like this???.....this is definitely a work of jealousy.....u can see it in the "ban it! ban it! ban it!" ending.....

what do they think.....ei ek polapain.com stop korlei shob bangla mp3s nai hoye jabe???....and artists ra kokhonoi pothey boshbe na.....this has been said a countless no of times.....and ami abaro boltesi.....most of the polpain.com population are ppl who are outside bd.....originally artists ra kokhonoi ei population ke albums sell korar target niye albums banai na.....so its not a loss for them....i think we are actually doing a favor to them by lettin them be *known* outside bd.....and jaara cd kenar manush tara cd kinbei....even if they have access to mp3s.....
